イチイは常緑針葉樹で、別名はアララギです。北海道や東北の方言ではオンコと呼ばれ、アイヌからはクネニと呼ばれています。赤い実を付け、果肉は甘く子どもの頃食べたことがあるという方が多いと思います。
Japanese yews are evergreen conifers, also known as "araragi" in Japan. In the dialects of Hokkaido and Tohoku, they are called "onko", and Japan's native Ainu people call them "kuneni". They produce sweet red berries, which many people recall eating when they were children.
